ffiXXed

May 26, 2014

ffiXXed is a collaborative art and design project initiated by artists and designers Kain Picken and Fiona Lau in 2008. They are currently based in Shenzhen, China.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do. We’re Fiona Lau & Kain Picken; we’re the designers of ffiXXed.

How has living in Shenzhen affected your practice? I guess Shenzhen has given us the opportunity to build a space for ourselves where we can have our own in-house production and really have a lot of control over the whole situation. We can make sure it’s a positive experience not only for our customers, but also for our staff.

What’s your favorite thing about your city? Easy access to delicious dumplings and hand pulled noodles.

What artists or designers are you interested in right now? We’re interested in SANAA, Ryan Gander, Matthew Linde from Centre of Style’s project etc.

What was the last collection you saw that stuck out to you? We developed this Merino Wool Fur, which was quite exciting.

What is your snack/beverage of choice when working in your studio? Pringles & Kinder Chocolate.

What do you do when you’re not working on fashion? The only kind of down time activity we do is watch TV.

What are you really excited about right now? We’re currently working on the Men’s SS15 for our first Men’s Paris Fashion Week Showroom.

What are you listening to right now? Kanye West, Pacific! and Breakbot.

Can you share one of the best or worst reactions you have gotten as a result of your work? I guess one of the best reactions would have been winning the International Woolmark Prize for Asia.
