What are some recent, upcoming or current projects you are working on? I just had a show at Cooper Cole’s new space in Toronto. They had to cut the sculpture into pieces to get it out because it was too big. It now lives in a small grassy lot behind the gallery. I have a show at Efrain Lopez in Chicago in February. I also have something coming up with the Fantastic Queer Thoughts in New York in the spring.

How did your interest in art begin? Well it’s less of an interest and more of a mix between poorly planned career choice and violent, guttural compulsion?

If you had to explain your work to a stranger, what would you say? “Sooo… What do you think?”

Do you have any guilty pleasures? Tell us about one. I do my best to experience pleasure without guilt.

What are you listening to right now? The ice cream truck outside of my window. The girl across the street that incessantly pogo sticks. The music of the urban landscape!!!!!

What do you collect? Fondue pots, ceramic sculptures by children, plants, pictures of really muscular animals, clothing.

What is your beverage of choice when working in your studio? Coffee. I make coffee in the studio by crushing the beans with a hammer and boiling it on an electric range and straining it with wire mesh because I don’t have a coffee pot in the studio.

What do you do when you’re not working on art? I’m a labor union organizer and am in the process of contract negotiations with the company where I work.

Can you share one of the best or worst reactions you have gotten as a result of your work? The TSA once smashed a sculpture of mine during a security check en route to NYC.
